The Autumn issue of Tanks & Terminals opens with Ng Weng Hoong’s discussion of how the latest developments in the Middle East are affecting storage and stockpiling plans across Asia and Australasia. Further articles discuss a variety of features such as safety and security, digitalisation and cybersecurity, tank gauging and flow control, sustainability, and much more.

Asia: a tale of two halves
While China has amassed the world’s largest official oil stockpile, much of the rest of Asia and Australasia remains vulnerable with lacking fuel stockpiles. Ng Weng Hoong, Contributing Editor, explores how the on-going conflict in the Middle East has highlighted and affected storage and stockpiling plans across the region.
Digging into the data
Christi Wilson, Trinity Consultants, discusses the importance of building a practical greenhouse gas inventory for tank and terminal operations.
Cryogenic condensation
Joris Demetsenaere, Group AQ, explores how cryogenic condensation can be integrated with other vapour management strategies to ensure storage terminal operations continue to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
Certified gas detection for life safety
Julian Yeo, United Electric Controls, explores how performance certified wireless gas detection can redefine life safety in tank storage and terminals.
Safety, security, and sustainability
Antoine Ghorayeb, Saipem, considers necessary safety measures for liquid ammonia terminal operations, considering engineering approaches and risk mitigation for storage tank design.
Challenges in confined spaces
Tank and terminal operations often feature confined spaces. Andy Cull, Total Safety UK, discusses how safety can be enhanced in these environments through digitalisation and an integrated systems approach.
Solving a moving target
Fadi Bachir, Owens Corning, explores strategies for cryogenic spill mitigation, specifically how passive spill mitigation can benefit LNG containment basins.
Out of buildings and into bulk storage
Seismic isolation has spent most of its history protecting buildings. It is now beginning to appear beneath storage tanks, where the case for it and the evidence that supports it are both different. Jonathan Jones, Carpenter & Paterson (Asia) Ltd, explains.
Controlling cybersecurity
Jules Vos, DNV Cyber, discusses the importance of experience and knowledge for securing cyber-resilience of terminals’ operational technology.
Engineering security in motion
John Speakman, Rockwell Automation, UK, explains why modern storage terminals cannot separate safety, digitalisation, and cyber resilience.
Advancing the digital twin
Julien Villemeur, Samp, explores why the gap between documentation and reality is becoming a strategic challenge for terminal operators, and how new technology can bridge this gap.
Approaching actuation
Katia Marsanich, Rotork, considers the importance of self-contained, fail-safe actuation for demanding tank and terminal environments.
Measured, monitored, and managed
Nuno Almeida, Dover Fueling Solutions, explores the importance of storage visibility, and how operators must ensure measurement accuracy for operational efficiency and resilience.
